GrainPro Pricing Update as at 17 Jan 2019.

US

Mixed Trading Overnight: Corn ▲ 5 cents : Soybean ▲2 cents : Wheat ▲ 5 cents

Traders becoming frustrated with the US/China trade war as yesterdays high hopes fade today. The 3 factors still weigh heavily on the minds of traders South America dry conditions prevail, US shutdown and US/China trade war.

Australia

Sorghum

September planted Sorghum harvest continuing in the Western Downs however with growers reporting a downgrade in yield from 3 to 2.4 tonnes to the hectare. Late sown Sorghum however is showing little promise with signs of ongoing stress due to continuing dry conditions.

Corn

Lower than usual planting across most of the corn growing areas of NSW , VIC and QLD Growers noting that the cost of water is a major factor impacting sowing decisions. New Season Corn bids for forward contracts being bid at $455/mt and Offered at $500/mt.

Barley

Total Australian Harvest Approx. 5.7 Million Tonnes (3.8 from WA)

Barley edged higher late yesterday with delivered offers ▲ $5.
Australian Barley Consumption for 2019 is estimated to be approx. 3.4 Million Tonnes – With an Export Minimum Commitment of 3-4 Million Tonnes

Grower confidence still high saying with only approx. 5.7 million tonnes of barley in the country and an average Australian consumption of 3.4 million tonnes and a commitment to export 4 million tonnes to TPP things are looking good…

Wheat

Total Australian Harvest Approx. 17.9 Million Tonnes (14.8 from WA)

With reports of dispatched wheat shipments into Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane; Wheat lost some ground ▼ approx. $6-$10 off on-farm bidding.
Australian Wheat Consumption for 2019 is estimated to be approx. 9 Million Tonnes – with a minimum export commitment of 8 Million Tonnes.
However with a sliding AUD exports could see a resurgence as Australian Wheat & Barley & Pulses are world renowned for quality. Again when you consider total harvest numbers compared to consumption and export commitments.. its seems that reserves will be low or even depleted by August 2019.
