GrainPro Pricing Update as at 18 Jan 2019.

US

Stronger Trading Overnight: Corn ▲ 4 cents : Soybean ▲ 5 cents : Wheat ▲ 6 cents
Traders becoming risk takers as they can no longer wait for the US/China trade war to come to an end. The 3 factors still weigh heavily on the minds of traders South America dry conditions prevail, US shutdown and US/China trade war.
Australia

Sorghum

Not looking good for late planted Sorghum I’m afraid with a very dry January and likely to continue into February. However, September planted Sorghum harvest with growers reporting a downgrade in yield from 3 to 2.4 tonnes to the hectare. Sorghum now trading ex-farm Nth NSW / QLD from $320-$345 respectively

Corn

Lower than usual planting across most of the corn growing areas of NSW , VIC and QLD Growers noting that the cost of water is a major factor impacting sowing decisions. New Season Corn bids for forward contracts being bid at $455/mt and Offered at $500/mt.

Barley

Total Australian Harvest Approx. 5.7 Million Tonnes (3.8 from WA)

Barley edged higher again yesterday with delivered offers ▲ $3.
Grower confidence still high saying with only approx. 5.7 million tonnes of barley in the country and an average Australian consumption of 3.4 million tonnes and a commitment to export min 4 million tonnes to TPP things are looking good… Average ex-farm Victoria from $375-$405 Riverina/NSW $415-$425

Wheat

Total Australian Harvest Approx. 17.9 Million Tonnes (14.8 from WA)

Reports of long ques of wheat shipments into TPP, China, Saudi Arabia, Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane; Wheat gained some ground ▲ approx. $7-$10 for on-farm bidding In Victoria.

Australian Wheat Consumption for 2019 is estimated to be approx. 9 Million Tonnes – with a minimum export commitment of 8-10 Million Tonnes.
However with a sliding AUD (currently $0.71.76) exports could see a resurgence as Australian Wheat & Barley & Pulses are world renowned for quality. Again when you consider total harvest numbers compared to consumption and export commitments.. its seems that reserves will be low or even depleted by July/August 2019.
